Kimberley Tonkin is the daughter of Karen Kwok, the name behind KT designs.
Karen's love of fashion began before she even started school, sneaking use of her mum's sewing machine to create garments from remnants passed over from family and friends.
She went on to spend alot of her school years creating garments from commercial paper patterns which taught her the intricacies of sewing and construction, but also allowed her to acquire clothes that she loved.
After graduating from University of Technology, Sydney, (UTS), she worked for many businesses, running design rooms, designing and patternmaking on an industrial scale for many companies including Zimmermann and Table 8.
Now, grateful for the amazing opportunity, she is creating her signature brand.
Opposed to fast, disposable fashion, Karen's philosophy focuses on 'Slow Fashion' - the sustainable practice of nurturing and maintaining the wellbeing of our planet.
By designing and producing only 2 ranges per year means that there is not an oversupply in the market,.
With less waste, there is less landfill, and in the process, garments become 'special, exclusive' pieces.
KT the Label produces key styles made to last, using beautiful textured fabrics & natural fibres.
Each season builds on the last, and garments from all seasons are designed to add to previously purchased pieces, enhancing your wardrobe.
Styling is elegant, sophisticated, refined and importantly, easy to care for.
With strong attention to detail, exquisite fabrics and high quality finishes, garments are ethically produced, and proudly made in Australia.
